WATCH YOUR CALORIC INTAKE
FOOD IS EVERYWHERE! We must constantly watch what we eat. An additional 10 pounds can creep up on you before you know it. Last month, we discussed surprise calories in portions and knowing the actual calories in dishes. Now, we will remind ourselves to cut calories everyday and keep our weight under control. |
| 1. Stretch out mealtime. What is the big rush? Trying to overfill that small pouch that is now your stomach? Don't gobble food...savor it, enjoy it, chew it. |
| 2. Use small dishes. Yes, break out a beautiful tea set. You'd be surprised how quickly you'll fill up. Some patients even eat with feeding spoons that are normally reserved for infants and toddlers. Well, no matter what bariatric surgery you've had, your stomach pouch is smaller. Smaller utensils and dishes can extend the pleasure of mealtime. |
| 3. Make a beautiful table setting. When you sit at a well-prepared table, using real china, listening to music, family conversation, maybe a candle or two...You can enjoy eating and feel satisfied. Block out all of the distractions such as the phone, TV, computer, etc. Enjoy the food, mood and company (even if its your own). |
| 4. Eliminate DANGER foods. The biggest danger in most households is not E. coli infested produce but ice cream and sodas/beer. Does it really need to be said? Keep foods that are bad for you away from you. You can't eat a pint of ice cream or drink a six-pack if they are not there. |
5. What is the order of eating? Make sure proteins are #1, vegetables #2, and whole grains and fruits next. Between meals is a good time for low fat sugar-free dairy.
6. Attend Support Group. Contact the office at (770) 924-8808 for dates & times. |
