What Story(s) Are You Telling Yourself
Words are so powerful. And the words we say to ourselves are the most powerful of them all. This is because we use words to tell ourselves stories about ourselves and our experiences. We completely buy into these stories and then proceed to live our lives as though they were truth!
Let me give you an example of what I’m talking about here. Have you ever told yourself you’ll never be thin? Or that it’s just too hard to eat in a healthy balanced way? If you haven’t yet had your surgery, what is it you’re telling yourself about what you want or are expecting from it?
I’ve heard people say they are having the surgery because they want to be “punished” if they eat too much or if they eat the wrong things. They want to be in pain or to throw up and get sick. Because then they won’t overeat anymore. Really? It seems to me you’ve already punished yourself enough by overeating. Do you really want to get healthy in this negative way?
How would your experience change if you changed your story? Do you think the process would be more enjoyable if you told yourself you are excited to lose your excess weight and feel wonderful. To be able to be comfortable in your body all throughout the day. To go shopping for new clothes and love looking in the mirror at your new healthy body. You can’t wait to begin only eating foods that nourish you and not ones that create inflammation and excess weight.
Can you feel energy shift when you read these words? Can you see that the action steps can be exactly the same in both stories. You eat small balanced meals throughout the day. This is especially true after the surgery. But now you are seeing the results as your reward and not the food as a punishment.
