What if I need surgery?
Today, appendectomy accounts for one percent of all surgical procedures
in the United States with an incidence approaching 500,000 per year. Kurt
Semm, a German gynecologist, performed the first laparoscopic appendectomy
in 1983. Since the advent of laparoscopic approach in general surgery,
appendicitis can be quickly treated using the minimally invasive technique.
